Leader Dogs for the Blind:
Since 1939 this organisation has provided dogs for the blind. It is headquartered in Michigan, and was founded by three Detroit area Lions. At the conclusion of each year, about 70% of the students and graduates have been funded by the various Lions, Lionesses and Leos in 42 states and abroad.

Guide Dogs of the Desert (P.O. Box 1692, Palm springs, CA. 92263)
760-329-6257, fx: 760-329-2127. founded in 1972 by Bud Maynard. Supported by individual lions clubs of the western U.S. including mine, especially from district 4L-5. Initially, German Shepards were trained but degradation of the breed has lead to changing the focus onto the Labrador. It costs $40,000 to raise & train a guide dog.

The Hearing Foundation:
Also known as "Ear of the Lion Foundation". This group of Lions focuses on providing the needy with hearing aids (at the tune of $2,212,500.00 as of 12/31/1998).

It is a MD-4 endorsed project, not to be confused with Western Ear Foundation.

House Ear Institute
Est in 1946 by Dr. Howard House MD, dedicated to the advancement of Otologic research & exploring the auditory system from the ear canal to the brain to create medical and prosthetic devices. Supported by the Western Lions Ear Foundation.

This organisation is based in Santa Ana, California. Although the local lions Clubs contribute to this group, this not a Lions sponsored organisation.714-573-8888

Foundation for the Junior Blind

"We provide programs and services for children, adults, and their families to enable children, young people, and adults who are blind and visually impaired to achieve independence and self-esteem." An endorsed project of MD4, has 6 major projects including the "Infant-Family Program" which helps children from birth through 3 years of age.


Lions Camp/ Teresita Pines:
This camp is located in the Big Pines Recreational area of the Angeles National Forest in California. It is open year round and features winterized cabins. It serves as a camp for the "Camp Wilderness" program which provides camp activities for deaf children. A Lions Club project.

Wilderness Camp for Deaf Children, Inc.
This camp is located at Mt. Eden in northern California.
Sponsored by the lions of California and Nevada (MD4), it was established in 1980.

The Lions International Eyeglass recycling center for the western United States. Located in Napa, California. 5+ Million glasses collected since 1987, recently in cooperation with Lenscrafters. "Helping the needy of the world to see a better world in their future".

The ADA shares in the Lions' goal to educate the public in an effort to control and eliminate diabetes.

Established in 1985 as a non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality intervention and advocacy services to abused children through the use of trained and supervised volunteers. These volunteers are appointed by county juvenile court judges. Recently endorsed by the District 4-L4 lions

City of Hope

Inspired and supported by a philanthropic volunteer movement, it is dedicated to the prevention, treatment and cure of cancer and other life-threatening diseases through innovative research and patient care. Lions clubs have provided millions of dollars in support. Every May, there is a "Lion's Day" dedicated to thank thje lions for their support.

Rebuilding Together (ex-"Christmas in April")

It began in 1972 when voluteers in Midland, TX. decided to devote one day in April to making repairs to homes of low-income, elderly people. My Club participates in this program by donating money and hand-power.
