The
purpose of this page
is to provide
information relating to the
Sunny Hills & Troy LEO Clubs:
Club News:
Upcoming: Late September; "Club Rush" membership drives for each club.
08/2011: Past
Troy High School Leos were awarded scholarships by the Fullerton Host
Lions Club (the sponsoring club): Mabel Tsui won the "Bob Burnette"
award of $500.00, and Andrea Lam won the "Dave Crawford" award for
$250.00. Of note; the awards were not awarded to Sunny Hills Leos.
Starting the 2011-2012 school year, deserving Leos of both clubs will
have a chance to apply to these scholarships; therefore one "Burnette"
and one "Crawford" per school will be awarded for a total is $1500.00
in scholarships. Click here for a Pdf formatted
copy: Application.
Last Year events:
04/02/11: Both Clubs attended the "Orphanages of Thailand" Fundraiser, at
the Rachada
Restaurant in Santa Fe Springs. We went there in large numbers 12 and 10 respectively,
and were the largest group to participate.
04/23/11: Troy Leos
helped the Fullerton Lions with there garage sale. Three members,
including Yip sold CD's, Tapes, Records (what's that!) and books from
8am to 2pm.
04/30/11: Deadline for Leos to hand in their "Bob Burnett / David
Crawford" scholorship
applications.
04/30/11: Once again, both
clubs participated in a Leo District event in large quantities; the
annual Talent Show was held at the Lion's Clubhouse in Garden Grove.
Pete Baron attended the event, and reports "The big surprise (to me
anyway) was the familiar looking girl who played one of the popular
Chopin etudes beautifully, and ended up winning the contest and $100 -
she was Deborah Yip, our very effective Leo helper at the 4/23 yard
sale! Small world! A Sunny Hills Leo band came in second (made more
noise than anyone) and another pretty sharp piano
player from Sunny Hills came in third. It was a fun talent show - lots of action!"
06/05/11: Scleroderma Walk in La Mirada; Leos help set up everything, and oversee the kid activities.
Early June: Joint Club "end of Year" party and installation of officers.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The New Leo year officially starts July 1rst, but since both clubs are school
based,
we are active from September to June ("school year").
The first activity is called: "Club Rush":
We plan the event
with flyers and posters,
the idea is to sign up as many new members as
possible. Last year Troy has
signed up about 100 Leos, and Sunny
Hills approx. 40 Leos.
SHHS Leo club was chartered in February of 1999.
Troy HS Leo club was chartered on April 5th, 2008.
