Chiropractic is the Art,
the Science and the Philosophy that was first defined by D.D. Palmer in
1895. It consists of identifying the presence of Vertebral
Subluxations, and correcting them by the application of a specific
thrust within predefined vectors. This correction is termed an
"Adjustment".
A
Vertebral subluxation consists of various components, and is thought to
be the primary cause of nerve interference at the level of the spinal
nerve roots, and this leads to many dysfunctions of the body
(Chiropractors often use the word dis-ease).
An
Adjustment is a precise technique used by Chiropractors (either
manually or through the use of a percussion instrument) to correct
Subluxations, sometimes referred to as "misalignments of the spine".
It
should not be confused with "simple manipulation" which does not
exhibit the precision component, or with "mobilization" which imparts
general motion to an area.
